Canon's latest point-and-shoot helps you take solid selfies

Canon has been relatively quiet since introducing its EOS M6 mirrorless in February, but the company is getting ready to launch yet another camera soon. Enter the PowerShot SX730 HS, a point-and-shoot with a 20.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, the latest Digic 6 processor, a 4.3-172mm 40x zoom lens (24-960mm equivalent) and a 3-inch tilting LCD that lets you take high-quality selfies. To help with this, Canon added new "skin" and "self-portrait" modes, which create images that can make you more attractive by giving your face a smoother look.

Alcatel’s new Flash phone has four cameras

Alcatel unveiled its Flash phone today. It has four cameras. You know about phones with rear-facing, dual-camera systems. Even the iPhone has one. Old news. You’ve maybe even heard of dual front-facing cameras, like the one on the Oppo F3 and the LG V10. Again, old news. Well, how ‘bout this, you who have seen it all: dual rear-facing cameras and dual front-facing cameras together on the same phone. Yes, that means four total cameras. What do you think? Too much camera for one device, or just the right amount?

Android phones vulnerable to device hijacks over Wi-Fi

A broad array of Android phones is vulnerable to attacks that use booby-trapped Wi-Fi signals to achieve full device takeover, a researcher has demonstrated.
The vulnerability resides in a widely used Wi-Fi chipset manufactured by Broadcom and used in both iOS and Android devices. Apple patched the vulnerability with Monday's release of iOS 10.3.1. "An attacker within range may be able to execute arbitrary code on the Wi-Fi chip," Apple's accompanying advisory warned. In a highly detailed blog post published Tuesday, the Google Project Zero researcher who discovered the flaw said it allowed the execution of malicious code on a fully updated 6P "by Wi-Fi proximity alone, requiring no user interaction."
Google is in the process of releasing an update in its April security bulletin. The fix is available only to a select number of device models, and even then it can take two weeks or more to be available as an over-the-air update to those who are eligible. Company representatives didn't respond to an e-mail seeking comment for this post.

Google WiFi will help you get your kids off the internet

Google is making it easier to pry phones and tablets out of your kids’ hands. With Google Wifi, you can now schedule an internet pause time during which the Wi-Fi is blocked from certain devices. The company suggests using it during dinner, your kids’ homework time, or bedtime. You can set multiple timers, tailor how often those pauses repeat (like only on school nights), and then choose the affected devices. You can even pause your gadgets for some extra device sanity when trying to go to sleep.

Twitter’s new Lite app loads quickly and saves data on slow connections

The Next Web In an effort to reach more users in countries with slow cellular networks, Twitter has launched a Lite version of its microblogging service, which works on any phone through the browser and promises to load quickly and save on data consumption.
Available at mobile.twitter.com, Twitter Lite offers a slightly pared down interface as compared to the company’s mobile apps. For example, it still lets you view and upload media in tweets, but you’ll miss features like photo editing and livestreaming.
There’s a Data saver feature that you can turn on in the settings menu to load lightweight previews of images and help you save up to 70 percent on data usage. Plus, you can add a shortcut to the mobile site to your Android home screen and enable push notifications to mimic the mobile app’s behavior as well.

Apple's iPhone 8 May Be Delayed Until November

Everyone is expecting Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to release its 10th anniversary iPhone 8 in September. Consumers, wireless providers, retailers and AAPL investors. Apple’s new ultra-premium flagship is going to be a big deal and September is the month when new iPhones are typically launched. However, there may be a problem with that timeline. A new report out on Wednesday says the advanced technology Apple is using is causing manufacturing problems in the supply chain.
As a result, the company may be forced to move the iPhone 8 launch to October or even November.

It's time to spring-clean your phone apps

File photo dated 29/12/15 of the App Store on an Apple iPhone 6s  Q.  I’m trying to prune my phone’s collection of apps. Any shortcuts to find the ones that should get the hook first?
A. It can be tempting to let apps accumulate on your phone until you start to run out of space, but apps you don’t use still have whatever data you put into them. They’ll still eat up your bandwidth to update themselves. And they will continue to distract you when you’re swiping through the grids of app icons in iOS and Android.
Neither Apple nor Google’s operating systems report which apps have gone ignored the longest, but their tracking of battery and bandwidth usage by apps can offer a rough indication of which ones have retained your attention.

How to block spam and texts on your phone

Ting! You’ve just received a new message. You set down your bags of groceries, dig into your pocket and pull out your smartphone. Then, you frown. The message reads: “REAL ROLEX 90% OFF!” You’ve never seen the phone number in your life.
You received spam, and smartphones have become a major target for indiscriminate marketing campaigns. Sometimes the senders are legitimate. You willingly gave your phone number to a company, and now that company is sending you ads. But spam also comes from unknown numbers, advertising fake products and offers.
For decades, we weathered telemarketers on our landlines. Those calls are now reaching our smartphones. Learn here how to block telemarketing and robocalls for good.
Today, it’s time to fend off the smartphone spammers. Luckily, this process has become easier and more streamlined than ever.

Nokia's new Android phones will make their way Stateside

Nokia's 3310 stole the show at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, but it wasn't the only device the brand announced at the event. It also debuted a trio of Android phones called the Nokia 6, 5 and 3. Now the company has revealed on Twitter that those three will all be available in the US. We've known for a while that there's a global release on the docket, but this confirms that you'll be able to get your hands on them when the time comes. Nokia also told another Twitter follower that the phone's projected release date is still sometime between April and June.

The phones were designed by HMD Global, the company's exclusive licensee for mobile devices. They run the stock version of Android Nougat with no third-party skins or apps to clutter the home screen. Among the three, Nokia 6 is the largest with its 5.5-inch display. It's also the priciest: one will set you back roughly $247, while the Nokia 5 and 3 will cost you around $200 and $147, respectively. We got the chance to take them for a spin in February -- make sure to read our experience with the devices if you're interested in buying one.
